Dovedale Hill Race - 5 September 2026
Join us on Saturday afternoon, 5th September for the iconic Dovedale Hill Race – an 11.1km run or walk up Pigeon Valley Road from Wakefield to the top of Dovedale Hill.
The 11.1km course starts at the Caltex garage in Wakefield, running along the right hand side footpath for 300m before turning right into Pigeon Valley Rd. Participants continue on this road for another 11km to the finish line at the top of the hill. The road is reasonably flat and sealed for 5.5km, then turns to gravel and starts climbing for the final 5km. The last 5km is narrow, windy and steeply cambered in places with poor visibility for approaching traffic.
The course map is HERE. This is a one way course.
This year the event is free for everyone!
If you can't manage 11km, you can make up a team of 2 on the day and run/walk half each.

This is a one way course with competitors either carpooling (leaving a car at the top near the finish line before the event) or jogging back down Pigeon Valley Road (forest roads are still closed).
If you will be leaving a car at the top and you can take extra people down the hill, please let us know at Check-in. There are always participants looking for a ride back the start area.
On the way up the hill everyone must keep to the right, facing traffic.
Those returning down the hill on foot should come down on that same side - this time on their left. Stay in single file, and take care when passing participants still on their way up.
On the way up or down, stay within 1m of the edge of the road as far as possible and give way to all traffic. If necessary, stop and get off the road to allow cars and trucks to pass.
This is for the safety of all and to ensure that complaints about runners in the middle of the road do not result in a demand that the event cease.
