Waimea Harrier events cater for people of all abilities, including competitive runners and walkers, families looking for an outdoor activity they can enjoy together, and social runners and walkers of all ages.

Individual adult membership is $40.
Joint/Couple/Family membership is $60.

Maitai Trail Run

"Meet at the Maitai Golf Course, new car park by pump track. Two courses available, both starting together.
– Course one is approximately 7.5km and undulating, goes up the zig zag and down Golf Road.
– Course two for walkers and juniors approximately 4.5km mainly flat along the Maitai Track.
Everyone is very welcome with no entry fee – just come along and enjoy.
Both options start at 2.30pm.
Stay for some great hospitality at the Golf Club after the run."

Wednesday Social Runs/Walks From Club Waimea
Wednesdays 5:30pm in Winter 2026
A group of keen runners and walkers will be meeting in the Club Waimea carpark at 5:30pm on Wednesdays in Winter for a relaxed social run or walk around the Meadows/Berryfields area. Various paces offered. We’ll head out for around 45 minutes, then gather afterwards at Club Waimea for a drink and a chat.
If there is enough interest, these events will continue through winter. You will need a light/torch for when it gets dark and bright reflective clothing is also a good idea so that cyclists can see you.
Everyone is welcome. There’s no fee, no official timing and no race numbers.
Dovedale Hill Race

Dovedale Hill Race - 5 September 2026
Join us on Saturday afternoon, 5th September for the iconic Dovedale Hill Race – an 11.1km run or walk up Pigeon Valley Road from Wakefield to the top of Dovedale Hill.
The course map is HERE. This is a one way course.
This year the event is free for everyone!
If you can't manage 11km, you can make up a team of 2 on the day and run/walk half each.
Check-In: From 1:15pm in the Whitby car park in the middle of Wakefield.
Race Briefings: At the Start Line 5 minutes before each group starts.
Start Times:
1:45pm: Casual Walkers Start.
2:00pm: Fast Walkers & Slower Runners Start (those who usually take more than 34mins for a flat 5km).
2:15pm: Most Runners Start.
2:30pm: Fastest Runners Start (those who usually do a flat 5km in under 22mins).
2:45pm: 5.5km Juniors Start from the halfway water station.
Note: The 5.5km Juniors and Relay participants are responsible for getting themselves to or from the Water Station Start Line & relay changeover point.
Please register online before the event .Online registrations close at 11am Saturday 05 September. If you miss the online cut-off, arrive at check-in nice and early and manually register.
You will need a Waimea Harriers or Athletics Nelson Webscorer number for this event. Check HERE to see if you have one.
