For more than 50 years Waimea Harriers has been encouraging running and walking for people of all ages. We believe running is wonderful for people's fitness and general health! Our motto is 'Run for your life!'
Waimea Harrier events cater for people of all abilities, including competitive runners and walkers, families looking for an outdoor activity they can enjoy together, and social runners and walkers of all ages.

Individual adult membership is $40.
Joint/Couple/Family membership is $60.
Single adult & child/children is $40.
Schoolchildren and youth students are Free.

Māpua Sprig + Fern 10k Fun Run & Walk
18 October 2025
Plan for an afternoon in picturesque Māpua taking part in the final event in our 2025 Sprig+Fern 10k Series!
Registration will be at the back of the Māpua Community Hall - opposite the Māpua Sprig+Fern on Aranui Road.
Registration Opens: 1.20pm and closes at 2pm promptly.
Briefing: 2pm.
Casual walkers - start: 1:45pm (Briefing at the start line)
Fast Walkers and "slower than 70 minute" Runners - start: 2:15pm
Main running group starts: 2:30pm
Walkers and runners of all ages and abilities are welcome! If you don't think you can do 10k but still want to take part, find someone to pair up with for a 2-person relay with each of you doing 5km.

There is a $10 entry fee for this event, but it is free for school kids & youth students and for Waimea Harriers and Athletics Nelson members.
After you finish - pop across the road to the Sprig+Fern Māpua for a drink, spot prizes and some post run / walk conversation!
Smugglers 5k Series
Continues 15 October 2025
Organised by Athletics Nelson
Every Wednesday evening in October. Meet at Smugglers Pub & Cafe, Muritai Street, Tāhunanui.
There's a different course each week, open to everyone from beginners to the serious athlete.
$5 entry fee, (14 & under free).
6.00pm start enter on the night - heaps of spot prizes
NOTE: arrive early to register, as it's a bit of a walk to start line.
